Schubert’s Donkey

 February 6 2018 | 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM

43-15 Crescent St, Long Island City, NY 11101

Come enjoy a magical evening of chamber music at M. Wells Steakhouse, featuring a string quartet led by violinist Amanda Lo, and featuring Étienne Guérin on guitar.

The program, inspired by Robert Bresson’s legendary donkey tale “Au Hasard Balthazar”, begins with Schubert’s stunning “Quartettsatz”, the first movement of an uncompleted string quartet. The Quartettsatz is followed by the Andantino from Schubert’s D. 959 Piano Sonata, which pervades the Bresson film, performed in an arrangement for string quartet. As well, Étienne Guérin will perform excerpts from another moving donkey story, the very Andalusian “Platero y yo” on solo guitar. Finally, all of the musicians will gather in Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s flamboyant Quintet for guitar and strings.
